The Committee of Progressive Pakistani Canadians is deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Amin Mughal, a lifelong progressive, Marxist, political activist, educator and journalist.

Professor Mughal remained firmly committed to social justice, democracy and the struggle for a peaceful, equal and classless society. As a leader of the National Awami Party, he endured imprisonment and political persecution for his beliefs. Through his teaching, journalism, political work, lectures and writings, he made a lasting contribution to Pakistan’s progressive movement and inspired generations of activists, students and thinkers.

His passing is a profound loss for the progressive community in Pakistan and around the world. His memory shall, however, remain a beacon of hope and his courage, intellect and lifelong commitment to justice will continue to guide and inspire us and future generation progressives and activists.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, comrades and all those whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Professor Amin Mughal. Your struggle and legacy will not be forgotten.
